The Town of Barnstable is raising the age for the purchase of tobacco products, the change goes into effect on Sunday, December 30th.
 

The minimum age for the purchase of tobacco, including e cigarettes, vaping devices and any other product derived from tobacco or nicotine, will be 21 and other regulations regarding the use of tobacco will also go into effect on Sunday.
 

New retail permits for the sale of tobacco will not be issued to a retail location within 500 feet of elementary or secondary school, the new rules also ban smoking within 10 feet of any municipal building entryway. Smoking will also not be allowed at municipal owned parks, playgrounds, beaches and athletic fields.
 

Smoking is also prohibited at public transportation waiting areas as well.
 

The use of e cigarettes is not permitted wherever smoking is otherwise prohibited. The changes come after a Board of Health meeting in late November.
