During today’s session of the All-Parliamentary Party Group on Vaping, BAT UK announced the roll-out of BAT VerifY, a scheme aimed at ensuring that all retailers of e-cigarettes are aware of their role in the prevention of access to vaping by under-18s.

Will Hill, head of external affairs at BAT, told the All-Parliamentary Party Group on Vaping: “We have developed a specific training programme for retail staff to ensure they are aware of the ‘challenge 25’ steps and how they should be implemented.

“We have set up a whistleblowing hotline that consumers can call if they believe a retailer is selling to those under the age of 18.

“Our sales reps will be working closely with retailers, in particular vaping shops who may not be as experienced as their newsagent peers in selling age restricted products, to help educate about the importance of youth access prevention.

“We will encourage retailers to report to us if they see any other retailer selling vaping products to minors.”

Hill also called on the government to require that online retailers implement more sophisticated age verification systems, as well as suggesting that the Department of Health should engage more with tobacco industry players on helping people to give up smoking/switch to vaping products.
