LJUBLJANA, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Slovenian government on Thursday introduced stricter tobacco policy, including hiked duty and harsher regulations for promotion, in a bid to reduce smoker population.
According to the Slovenian Press Agency (STA), the new adjustments raise the price of a pack of cigarettes by 10 euro cents through an excise duty hike.
Changes also include the introduction of graphic warnings on uniform non-branded cigarette packages, the licensing of tobacco vendors and stricter regulations for the promotion of tobacco products.
To help people be away from smoking, the Slovenian government has also secured an additional 4 million euros (4.26 million U.S. dollars) a year to its Health Ministry, tasking it to draw up a set of measures to this purpose together with the Slovenia's Health Insurance Institute.
