Since 1995, the School Interactive Education Theatre has been one of the major education and publicity campaigns of Hong Kong Council on Smoking and Health (“COSH”) to spread the smoke-free messages among children and teenagers. Through cooperation with schools and local professional troupes, COSH urges the youngsters to promote a smoke-free lifestyle. Over the past two decades, the Education Theatre programme has delivered about 2,000 performances reaching more than 540,000 students and teachers. This year’s prorgramme is co-organized by the Education Bureau and this is the first time for COSH working in collaboration with iStage to launch a brand-new drama titled “Smoke-free Detective Adventure”. With the support of Ocean Park Hong Kong, the character, REDD is featured in the show. The premiere was held on today at the Jockey Club Auditorium, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University today for over 300 students, teachers and media.

Officiating guests of the Premiere included Dr Fung ying (Head, Tobacco and Alcohol Control Office); Dr Andy TAM (Chief Curriculum Development Officer (MCNE), Education Bureau); Prof LAM Tai-hing (Chair Professor of Community Medicine & Sir Robert Kotewall Professor in Public Health, School of Public Health, The University of Hong Kong); Ms Candy LAW, Senior Marketing Manager, Ocean Park Hong Kong; Mr Antonio KWONG (COSH Chairman) and Ms Vienna LAI (COSH Executive Director). Mr Antonio KWONG remarked, “In this year, the brand new drama used student favorite detective story as main theme with strong emphasis on the rapid growth of new smoking products, through the drama student can understand the marketing strategy of tobacco; in addition to the hazards of smoking, secondhand smoke and third-hand smoke. Students are also invited to spread smoke-free message, urge smokers to kick the habit and build a smoke-free family.”

The drama “Smoke-free Detective Adventure” is presented along with music, stage effects and interactive sessions to deliver smoke-free messages. The story was about Dr. Healthy, who comes from 2050, through a body check by the medical robotic - Healthy 3.0, Dr. Healthy was found he is suffering diseases related with smoking, but he does not smoke. To find out the reasons that he is weak and unhealthy, he creates a time machine, bring along with his favorite Redd, going back to 2019. Eventually, he met Hong Jai and Bo Chu and his family. he found out that the reasons are relating to his family and friends. In the end, he detected several smoking hazards and successfully convinced his best friend not to try smoking and encouraged his father to quit smoking. Students actively participated in the interactive sessions and promised to reject the first cigarette and to spread smoke-free message to their family.

“Smoke-free Detective Adventure” will begin its tours across the territory in mid-October 2019 to deliver around 100 performances. For details of the School Interactive Education Theatre, please visit
