The 1st Symposium about Tobacco Control and Prevention of Lung Cancer

More than 20 academic organizations on the cross-strait from China Cancer Research Foundation and Formosa Cancer Foundation, Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, Chinese Association on Tobacco Control, the Chinese Medical Association Branch of Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgery, Beijing Medical Association, Beijing Association on Tobacco Control, John Tung Foundation, etc. They attended and supported ‘the 1st symposium about tobacco control and prevention of lung cancer on the cross-strait and the new technology and new progress in lung cancer diagnosis and treatment’, which was hosted by China Cancer Research Foundation and Formosa Cancer Foundation in Redegast Lake View Hotel in 11th Oct, 2014.  More than 200 experts and scholars on the cross-strait in the field of tobacco control and prevention of lung cancer attended the conference.

It is generally known that there are 300 million smokers and 740 million smokers surfer from second and third smoke in China. According to the third survey of national population death results information, malignant tumor has become the first cause of death among urban residents, especially lung cancer ranks first in malignant tumor death. The executive chairman of the conference of Zhi Xiuyi, the standing member of Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and Minister of the Propaganda Department of Science, and Director of Lung Cancer Center of Beijing Xuanwu Hospital, thought that how to prevent lung cancer, the early detection of lung cancer and the standard treatment of lung cancer, and how to reduce people smoking rates, stay away from second-hand smoking and third-hand smoking. They already have been paid close attention to the hot topic by department of health administration management on both sides of the straits, public health experts and the majority of clinical medical staff. Therefore, this conference provided a regular exchange platform to share the successful experience of cross-strait experts, looking to the future direction of development, seeking for cross-strait cooperation opportunities.
