Sick of breathing his four roommates' secondhand smoke, a young man in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region decided it was time to clear the air, DIY style.

Using everyday items the lone non-smoker created a personal ventilation system that apparently provides him hours of computer game time in luxurious, tobacco-free air.

"I got unlucky and was assigned a room with four chain smoking roommates," writes 25-year-old Sina Weibo user Shandiandeliliang on his inspiration for creating the contraption. "For someone who doesn't smoke, this is hell."

The device consists of a small electric fan attached to the door transom that blows air from the hallway to a cardboard helmet via a tube of black garbage bags, show photos uploaded on May 29.

Though the device appears to work, its inventor admits the design has its shortcomings.

"You can't really use it in winter, or it will freeze your face," writes Shandiandeliliang.
