Workplace smoking forces young people to quit

 Poor working environments are the primary reason for office workers, especially post-90s, to quit their jobs, www.zjol.com.cn reported on Sunday. 

The Zhejiang provincial news portal found that the top reasons employees quit their jobs are not because of low salaries or lack of empowerment, but poor working conditions.

Only 18.9 percent of under-25s are satisfied with their working environment, according to a recruiting agency.

"The air quality in my office is terrible!" said Zhou, a job hopper at the job fair in Ningbo, Zhejiang province.

"I worked in a smoke-filled room because my office director and colleagues often smoke," lamented Meng, another job hunter.

The working environments, especially a smoker-free office, will be a big consideration for my next job, she added.

Eight out of 17 job-changers stated that office environments are one of the main reasons for them to quit.

At the fair, one recruiter made use of his smart phone to show how desirable his company' working environment is. "Most people prefer to work in our company because of our relaxing and attractive workplace."

Another recruiter confirmed the growing trend for people to care as much, if not more, about their working environments as for their prospects for career growth and higher income.
