Beijing health authorities released a report on August 21 announcing the results of the implementation of Beijing's latest smoking ban, which began on June 1 and bans smoking in all indoor spaces, workplaces and on the public transportation system. Inspection records show that places in the food and beverage industry (i.e., restaurants and bars) still have the most smoking violations, reported the Beijing News.

Inspection results showed that overall, the rate of places that reach the standards required by the smoking ban is rising, going from 77 percent in June to 80 percent in July. However, the rate of compliant locales in the food and beverage industry is only 45 percent. Meanwhile, 85 percent of schools and 84 percent of medical institutions have passed according to the new standards.
