The Beijing Tobacco Control Association (BTCA) announced that the recruitment of volunteers in smoking control assistance, publicity and quitting smoking services will be extended from the original deadline of July to the end of this year. It has been estimated that the total number of volunteers by the end of year will reach 100,000, the Beijing Morning Post reported.

According to BTCA Director Zhang Jianshu, a total of 619 volunteers have passed the approval procedures so far, but there are more than 10,000 volunteers in the first batch.

Before the end of this month, all of the volunteers who have received training will start cooperating with health inspectors and working on publicizing the smoking ban, dissuading smokers and investigating causes for violations.

BTCA also announced that a citywide "quitting smoking" competition will be launched later this year.
