More than 10 hotels in Shanghai are working on completely banning smoke inside their rooms and lobbies, according to a recent press conference held by the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality, thepaper.cn reported.

Those pioneers include Shangri-La hotels, Oriental Riverside Hotel Shanghai, Jin Jiang Tower, Huating Hotel and Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai. Thus far, Oriental Riverside Hotel Shanghai has removed all ashtrays from its indoor area and shut down smoke-break rooms for staff, while launching three outdoor smoking areas surrounded by 80 trees. The hotel also put up 250 no-smoking signs and 37 screens to display anti-smoking videos.

The new regulations on smoking control in the city were approved by Shanghai Municipal People's Congress on November 11, and will be implemented on March 1. Smoking in public indoor areas, indoor offices as well as on public transportation will be banned, and outdoor areas such as auditoriums of stadiums and waiting areas for public transportation will also prohibit smoking.
