Macau (MNA) – As the New Regime Law for smoking prevention and control will come into
force on January 1st, the Macau SAR Health Bureau called on Sunday for ‘coordination and
support for the implementation,’ asking responsible staff to display official new prohibition
signs in the corresponding zones.

The legislation expands the zones where smoking is forbidden with the new areas
including all indoor zones and a 10-meter distance from bus stop signs and taxi stands.

There are exceptions for smoking rooms in airports and casinos.

Advertising and tobacco promotions will be also prohibited. Selling points will not be
allowed to display tobacco products, and it is forbidden to sell them in casinos.

The ban extends to the use of electronic cigarettes in places where smoking is prohibited.
Fines for smoking in the banned areas are increased from 600 to 1,500 patacas.

The revision of the law that will come into force tomorrow was passed on July 14 this year,
after two years of debate.

The Health Bureau stated that ‘smoking prohibition signs can be collected from the
Tobacco Prevention and Control Office, Health Centers, Tobacco Control Resource Center,
Pharmaceutical Affairs Department and Technical Licensing Unit for Activities and
Professions.
